Veterinary Desensitisation Clinics

(Coming soon - Once pandemic has passed)

A recent study by Campbell et al (2020) discovered that alarmingly almost 1 in 5 owners have delayed veterinary visits due to their dogs behaviour at the vet.*

Socialisation and desensitisation to veterinary handling/techniques can be beneficial all round. A happier dog or cat to handle will reduce stress levels not only for the pet but the owner as well. Sessions will last 1 hour as any longer can be tiring for pets and increase likelihood of stress levels rising. Sessions will INCLUDE you as the owner as having owners present has been shown to decrease stress levels in pets.

During these 1 hour sessions I will aim to:

  • Increase the POSITIVE associations with the veterinary practice for your dog/cat

  • Introduce your pet to common veterinary handling (injections/muzzles/stethoscopes)

  • Help your pet feel more relaxed both in the veterinary practice and in transit to/from the practice

Sessions will consist of:

  • Fun with toys/games that are familiar to your pet

  • Hide and seek with biscuits/treats around the practice for your pet to explore

  • Handling training (gradually when your pet begins to settle in)

  • Muzzle training (where necessary)

  • Basket/carrier training (where necessary for cats)

  • Work on weighing scales and with stethoscopes

Costs:

1 session (1 hour) - £50

Block of 4 sessions (4 hours) - £180

Sessions will be held at Links Veterinary Group, Prestonpans Branch, East Lothian
